When a new couch arrives or you are clearing out a relative's house, the old furniture has to go somewhere. In Hollywood you have two main options: put it out for the city's bulk trash pickup, or pay a hauling service to take it. Here is how to decide.
Option 1: City bulk trash pickup
The City of Hollywood collects bulk trash from residential curbs on a schedule. Rules change, so check the city's website or call the city before you put anything out. Things to confirm:
- Your pickup day and how early items can go to the curb.
- How much you can put out each time.
- What is excluded. Construction debris, items with refrigerant and hazardous materials often have separate rules.
- Whether it applies to you. Condos and many apartment buildings use their own dumpsters and contractors, and HOAs can have their own curb rules.
Bulk pickup is usually the cheapest way to get rid of a few items you can carry to the curb yourself, as long as you can wait for the next pickup day.
Option 2: A hauling service
A hauling service makes sense when:
- It has to be carried out. Second-floor bedrooms, sleeper sofas, armoires and treadmills are heavy and awkward. We carry them out, stairs included.

- You can't leave it at the curb. Condo rules, HOA rules or no curb at all.
